Take Action
To be considered for admission to the College of Graduate Studies to pursue graduate work leading to the Doctorate of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences, the applicant must:
- Have completed requirements for a relevant bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an appropriate institutional accreditor.
- Submit a statement of research interests and career goals as pertains to pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Science.
- Submit three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant’s academic or professional experience.
- Submit IELTS or TOEFL exam score if a Non-Native English Speakers
- While there is no minimum GPA required to apply to the program, a GPA over 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) would likely begin to be a competitive application for admission.

Is it necessary for prospective students to identify a mentor prior to applying?
No. Applicants are not required to identify a mentor before applying. However, we strongly
encourage students to describe their research interests and how they align with potential faculty
mentors in their Statement of Research Interest.
Do students receive financial support throughout the program?
Yes. All students receive full financial support, which includes a tuition waiver and a $28,000
annual stipend through either a Graduate Research Assistantship or Graduate Teaching
Assistantship.
When is the application deadline?
There is no fixed application deadline. Admissions are conducted on a rolling basis until all
available positions are filled.
How many positions are available?
The program admits six students each Fall semester.
Is the program in-person or online?
The Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences is a fully in-person program supported by research faculty on
both the Savannah and Statesboro campuses. Coursework is delivered in a site-synchronous
format across the two locations. Students are strongly encouraged to live in the city where their
research mentor’s laboratory is based.
Are international students eligible to apply?
Yes. International applicants are welcome and strongly encouraged to apply early to allow
sufficient time for securing required travel and immigration documents.
Are official transcripts or IELTS scores required for the application?
No. Official transcripts and test scores are not required at the time of application. However,
official documents must be submitted prior to acceptance into the program. Applicants from
countries where English is the official language are not required to submit proof of English
proficiency.
