Executive Ticket Candidates

Erika Middleton
Junior, Biology and Biomedical Sciences
Jesup, GA
Statesboro Campus
Position: President (éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ for Campus & Organizational Change)
My platform emphasizes efficiency, transparency, and engagement within SGA. I aim to streamline operations while enhancing communication between campuses and between Cabinet and Senate. I am committed to inclusivity, ensuring diverse voices across campus are heard and represented. Additionally, I will strengthen campus and organizational engagement, fostering meaningful connections with student groups and increasing SGA’s visibility. By prioritizing collaboration, amplifying underrepresented perspectives, and promoting active participation, we can cultivate a more effective, accountable, and connected student government that truly reflects the needs and voices of our campus community.

Taylor Mellish
Sophomore, Double Major in Political Science (Concentration in Law and Politics) and Business Management. Pre-Law Track
Denville, New Jersey and Hampton, Georgia
Statesboro Campus
Position: Executive Vice President (éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ for Campus and Organizational Change)
I want to focus on building a more unified and welcoming campus where every student feels like they truly belong. While Georgia Southern has a diverse student body, not everyone experiences that sense of connection equally, especially students of color. I believe we can do better in creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued. As EVP, I want to help strengthen relationships across organizations and bring students together in meaningful ways so that inclusion is not just something we talk about, but something we genuinely feel on our campus every day.

Zamyah Holmes
Junior, Economics
Chicago, IL
Statesboro Campus
Position: Vice President of Business & Finance (éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ for Campus and Organizational Change)
Students consistently face rising costs, limited transparency in how student fees are allocated, and inefficient access to financial resources, funding opportunities, and campus services. Many students are unaware of where their money goes, how to apply for funding, or how financial decisions impact their daily academic experience. This lack of clarity and accessibility creates frustration, inequity, and disengagement from student government. As Vice President of Business and Finance, I aim to address these issues by improving financial transparency, streamlining funding processes, and ensuring student dollars are managed efficiently and in ways that directly benefit the student body.
Strengthening Student Engagement with SGA
At éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ, the Student Government should be more than a representative body. It should be an active and visible presence in everyday campus life. However, many students are unaware of how to get involved or how SGA directly impacts their experience. When engagement is low, it limits collaboration and reduces the diversity of voices contributing to decisions. To create a more connected campus, SGA must prioritize outreach and meaningful interaction with students.
To improve engagement, I will advocate for:
- Interactive campus outreach efforts, such as tabling events and student organization collaborations, to encourage direct interaction.
- Open forums where students can ask questions, share ideas, and engage directly with SGA representatives.
- Clear promotion of leadership and committee opportunities so students understand how to participate.
- Consistent updates on initiatives and upcoming events to keep students informed and involved.
- Regular feedback channels, including surveys and suggestion platforms, to gather student input.
By increasing visibility and accessibility, SGA can foster a culture where students feel encouraged to engage, contribute ideas, and take an active role in shaping campus life.
Promoting Organizational Transparency
Transparency is essential to building trust between students and SGA. When students are unsure how decisions are made or how funds are allocated, it can create distance and uncertainty. SGA should operate in a way that is open, clear, and accountable to the student body it represents. By prioritizing transparency, we strengthen credibility and ensure students feel confident in their leadership.
To enhance transparency, I will advocate for:
- Publicly accessible meeting summaries and agendas so students can easily follow key decisions.
- Clear, detailed budget breakdowns explaining how student funds are distributed.
- Regular progress reports outlining goals, completed initiatives, and ongoing projects.
- Open question and answer opportunities where students can directly ask about policies and decisions.
Through consistent communication and accountability, SGA can build stronger trust with the student body and create a more informed and unified campus community.

Carson Shaver
Junior, Finance
Jesup, Georgia
Statesboro Campus
Position: President (Shaver, Ross, Garcia)
I am seeking the position of Student Government President because I want to be a strong, reliable voice for students and help create meaningful change on our campus. I am passionate about improving everyday student experiences, especially in areas like parking, academic advising, and communication. My interest in SGA comes from a desire to make student government more transparent, accessible, and effective. I believe students deserve leaders who listen, communicate clearly, and advocate for real solutions, and I am committed to serving the student body with integrity, accountability, and purpose.

Abigail Ross
Junior, Psychology, Minor in Philosophy
Richmond Hill, Georgia
Statesboro Campus
Position: Executive Vice President (Shaver, Ross, Garcia)
I am running for Vice President because I want to make SGA more accessible to the student body and create more opportunities on campus. In my time as a senator I have noticed that many organizations do not feel supported by SGA and do not see us as a viable resource to use. I want groups to realize that SGA is a valuable partner to work with and a group that will do what it takes to make their organizations run more smoothly. Furthermore, I want to help students have easier access to SGA and realize that we are a voice for them to the school. If elected I hope to bring a vibrant voice for the students to make their academic ventures easier and to make school better.

Cody Garcia
Senior, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Concentration in Vehicle Design and Testing Newnan, GA

Position: Vice President of Business & Finance (Shaver, Ross, Garcia)
I am running for Vice President of Business and Finance to bring efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency to the SGA. My goal is to help ensure Carson Shaver’s administration runs smoothly and aid him in his mission to fix parking, improve academic advising, and bring transparency to the SGA.
Our Top Priorities for Student Government
1. Parking & Campus Accessibility
Parking affects students every single day. Limited availability, unclear enforcement, and inconsistent communication create unnecessary stress.
What we want SGA to do:
• Advocate for clearer parking policies and consistent enforcement practices
Improve communication around parking availability, permits, and changes by creating an app students can use to check availability for lots.
• Work with university administration to explore short- and long-term solutions that reduce daily frustration for students
Our goal is not just more parking, but a system that is fair, clearly communicated, and student-centered.
2. Academic Advising & Student Support
Academic advising should help students succeed, not leave them confused about requirements, scheduling, or graduation timelines.
What we want SGA to do:
• Push for clearer advising resources and more consistent guidance
• Improve communication so students know where to go and who to contact for academic support
• Hold advisors accountable and ensure they are available and helpful when needed
We believe every student deserves accessible, accurate, and proactive advising.
3. Transparency & Communication
Students deserve to know how decisions are made and how their voices influence campus policy. Transparency builds trust, and communication keeps students engaged.
What we want SGA to do:
• Clearly communicate SGA actions, decisions, and priorities in plain language
• Make meetings, updates, and opportunities for involvement more accessible
• Serve as a stronger bridge between students and university leadership
Our mission is to make student government open, visible, and accountable to the students it represents.
Cabinet Candidates

Haylie Vacirca
Sophomore, Sociology

Position: Vice President of Academic Affairs

I have seen how different disciplines operate and face unique challenges, reinforcing the importance of equitable resources, clear communication, and meaningful academic support. I am prepared to bridge gaps between students and administration and advocate for policies that support academic success across all colleges.

- Create regular opportunities for collaboration between colleges through joint academic events, panels, and workshops
- Advocate for shared resources and academic support services that are accessible across all campuses
- Work with college representatives to identify common challenges and develop campus-wide solutions
- Promote transparency by keeping students updated on academic policies and initiatives across colleges
- Build stronger connections between students, faculty, and administration to ensure all academic voices are heard

Patrick Pool
Junior, History and Political Science
Atlanta, Georgia
Statesboro Campus
Position: Vice President of Student Engagement
I am seeking the position of Vice President of Student Engagement because I am passionate about creating a campus where students feel connected, involved, and valued. I believe engagement is more than attending events it is about building community and making sure every student feels like they belong. Through my leadership and campus involvement, I have seen how powerful student voices can be when they are supported and heard. My interest in SGA comes from a desire to strengthen that impact. As Vice President, I will focus on increasing involvement, improving communication, and creating meaningful opportunities for student connection.
éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ – Issues & Positions Statement
As a candidate, I believe SGA should focus on real issues that directly affect students’ daily lives. Below are the three university issues that matter most to me and what I would like to see SGA do to address them.
1. Student Engagement & Campus Involvement
Many students struggle to find their place on campus, especially first-year students, transfer students, and commuters. When students are not engaged, they are more likely to feel disconnected or overwhelmed.
What I would like SGA to do:
- Promote student organization events more effectively through social media and campus-wide communication.
- Partner with Residential Life, Greek Life, and campus departments to host more collaborative events.
- Create more interactive campus traditions that build school spirit across all campuses.
- Ensure engagement opportunities are inclusive and accessible to all students.
2. Communication Between Students & Administration
Sometimes students feel like decisions are made without their input or that their concerns are not clearly addressed. Strong communication builds trust and transparency.
What I would like SGA to do:
- Host open forums where students can speak directly to university leadership.
- Send out monthly updates explaining what SGA is working on and how it impacts students.
- Create easier ways for students to submit concerns or suggestions.
- Follow up publicly on major student concerns so students know their voices matter.
3. Student Well-Being & Support
College can be stressful. Academic pressure, financial challenges, and personal responsibilities can affect student success. Supporting student well-being should always be a priority.
What I would like SGA to do:
- Advocate for expanded mental health resources and awareness campaigns.
- Work with campus partners to promote financial literacy workshops.
- Support initiatives that provide stress-relief events during midterms and finals.
- Increase visibility of tutoring, advising, and academic support services.
Closing Statement
éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ is full of talented, driven students. However, we can always improve how we engage, communicate, and support one another. I believe SGA should be a strong bridge between students and administration while actively working to improve campus life. If elected, I will focus on listening first, leading with integrity, and taking action on the issues that matter most to students.
Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected Eagle Nation.

Alayna Stewart
Freshman, Criminal Justice
Covington, Georgia
Statesboro Campus
Position: Vice President of Student Engagement
As your Vice President of Student Engagement, I will work to make every student feel seen, heard, and included on our campus. I believe engagement means more than events; it means building real connections and creating opportunities that reflect what students actually want. I am organized, approachable, and committed to listening before leading. I will collaborate with clubs, and academic groups to bring fun ideas and stronger participation. My goal is simple: increase school spirit, involvement, and unity. Vote for me, and let’s build a more connected and energized student community together where everyone feels valued and represented.
1. Low Student Engagement & School Spirit
One of the biggest issues on our campus is low student involvement in events and activities. Many students either do not know what is happening or do not feel encouraged to attend. As Vice President of Student Engagement, I want SGA to improve how we promote events through better communication, creative marketing, and student input surveys. I would also introduce more interactive and diverse events that reflect the interests of the entire student body. By making events more visible, inclusive, and exciting, we can increase school spirit and participation across campus.
2. Lack of Student Voice in Decision-Making
Students should feel heard, not overlooked. Many students feel disconnected from SGA because they do not see how their opinions shape campus life. I want SGA to create more open forums, suggestion boxes, and feedback opportunities where students can share ideas and concerns. My goal is to make student voices a priority in planning events and initiatives. When students feel heard, they are more likely to get involved and take pride in their campus community.
3. Limited Collaboration Between Organizations
Clubs and organizations often work independently, which can limit creativity and turnout. I would like to see SGA strengthen partnerships between clubs, academic groups, and campus departments to host collaborative events. Joint programming can increase attendance, reduce scheduling conflicts, and build stronger relationships. By encouraging teamwork between organizations, we can create larger, more impactful events that bring students out.
