Langdon named international scholar by Center for Self-Determination Theory
橘子视频 Associate Professor Jody Langdon, Ph.D., has been invited by the Center for Self-Determination Theory to be an international scholar for the organization because of her contributions to research and applied work in the field of motivation and human development.
鈥淚 am excited to be recognized for the work that I鈥檝e done using the self-determination theory,鈥� stated Langdon. 鈥淗aving the opportunity to be listed on the Center of Self-Determination Theory website will help share the work I鈥檝e done in addition to providing me with the opportunity to have others seek me out for collaboration and mentorship.鈥�
Individuals were selected as scholars based on their rigorous, evidence-based research using the self-determination theory鈥檚 framework and their tremendous, broad-ranging impact in the scientific, public and social domains. Self-determination theory represents a board framework for the study of human motivation and personality, focused on why humans engage in particular activities and the sociocultural factors that influence such engagement. It is applied in a wide variety of contexts including sport, exercise, education, health care and family dynamics.
Langdon, who has been a faculty member in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology in the Waters College of Health Professions for 10 years, will be joining more than 100 leading international scholars and experts in academia and practice who have provided the highest-quality research and applied work in the field.

Library of Congress now home to collection of Georgia Southern Libraries journals
A collection of 12 journals published by the 橘子视频 Libraries are now housed in the Library of Congress. The journals, authored by teaching and research faculty, will be permanently available in the Microfilm and Electronic Resources Center (MERC) in Washington, D.C., and may become available through the Library of Congress鈥� publicly accessible online catalog in the future.

Georgia Southern staff member named Best Author/Writer by Savannah Magazine
Melanie Simo虂n, a communications manager on the 橘子视频 Armstrong Campus, was recently named Best Writer/Author in Savannah by Savannah Magazine in its annual Best Of Savannah awards. Simo虂n has written and published two books, La Americana: A Memoir and Leopold鈥檚 Ice Cream: A Century of Tasty Memories.
鈥淚 had no idea that I was even in the running or that I had won until a friend texted me, 鈥楥ongrats on your Best of Savannah win!鈥欌�� Simo虂n said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a reader-voted award, which is what makes it so special.鈥�
Simo虂n has worked on the Armstrong Campus since May 2015. She began her career in publishing in New York City, and later returned to Savannah where she has served as a publicist and freelance writer since 2003. Currently, she is partnering with producer Stratton Leopold on the book-to-film development of La Americana, and will serve as a co-producer of the film.
Simo虂n said she鈥檚 honored to have won the award.
鈥淚 was floored,鈥� she said. 鈥淪avannah is loaded with creative talent, and to have so much support from my hometown is incredible.鈥�
